Help - I rested a new bench grinder that has rubber feet on a solid wood coffee table. Not sure of the wood but is very light with close grain - beech or ash?

The coffee table is finished in a clear matt coat which may be a polyurethane varnish.

What I fear is that the surface finish reacted with the rubber feet and that the black has got into the surface and is not simply sitting on the surface.

I have tried wax polish and also a cream surface cleaner and it has only marginally changed matters.

I fear it is a strip off top finish but am hoping for suggestions.

Thanks.

Not sure if I am remembering corectly, but try a white pencil eraser?

I'll give it a go if I can find one. I recall a certain type of (magic) eraser that would stick itself to plastic due to interaction between the chemicals in the two products - I fear that this is what has happened here.

I am not in the best of favour just at the moment.
