I have to apply 4 coats to 80 window panels which I am going to mask. Is it best to remove the tape after each coat or could I leave it on for all 4 coats then take it off? Or maybe 2?

Thanks

Hi

You should remove before the paint dries or you'll not get a clean edge. With that many windows you should give freehand a go, you'll be great at it by the end!

Taping before each coat can be very time consuming. Just remember that you can scrape the glass if need be.

Don't use it - waste of time. Better giving all those windows a quick wizz over with stain - not paint.

Joe,

I really don't think that whatever the op uses without the correct prep that they will peel this Summer let alone next. ;)

Certainly got a lot of replies!

To clarify, the original finish here in Hungary is called "Lakk Lazur" and is varnish which is peeling off. There are 80 panels each appx 30x20 cm plus the woodwork. She is happy to have them painted as this is probably the easiest way to make them look nicer, removing all the old varnish would seem to be a nightmare. (Any way of doing this easily?)

I will be following Emily's advice on prep and cutting in by hand. Should be pretty good at it by the 3rd coat :)

Thanks for all the replies, I'm off to buy a ton of Stanley blades!
Here's a pic of half the job

If you don't get the old stuff off - then the new paint will crack and peel.
That's why it isn't a good idea (in my opinion) to paint them.

I don't think we've had anyone on here take Emily's advice yet, so that's a first.
