Take, I imagine if the outcome of the engineer inspection is as you say we are likely to think seriously about how to proceed.

But thanks for the context it’s been very useful and confirmed that I need a structural engineers opinion!
 
It's no good repairing cracks unless the cause has been identified and dealt with first.
