I have a large, light grey fire place in my living room. It is Victorian, as is the house, and quite plain. The marble is a very light grey with "veins". My problem is that I want to decorate the living room and I don't know what colours I can use. Can I only use white or grey? How careful do I need to be about matching the colour on the walls to the marble? I want to have a colour scheme that works, but ideally I want to avoid just painting everything white. Help!

Not really my field but one piece of advice..... if you try and get an exact match, if it's even slightly off it'll look wrong. You might be better to go for totally different neutral colour that would complement it instead of trying to get a match.

Spot on advice...my thought exactly, a miss match looks awful go for something that will complement the marble...maybe grey based pale colours as opposed to bright pure colours.

It sounds like Carera marble so you will have loads of choice.
