Maybe a little yay for Amazon

Not a big fan of the tax dodging high street wrecking monolith. But if you search for covid 19 testing kits on Amazon, you are redirected to a uk gov site informing you that the kits will be made available to NHS staff as a priority. Seems like a sensible move until production is ramped up to cover the GP at large.

I feel exactly the same, and bearing in mind the 'high street' was on it's knees before this crisis, a lot of shops/retailers are unlikely to ever re-open. But it's great to be able to go online and buy almost anything with a single click, normally at a reduced price, and they are incredibly efficient.

We'll I suppose if you have no shops, pay little tax, have a large zero hours workforce and due to your size can squeeze your suppliers until they squeak, then I guess you would be a bit cheaper. Anyway I won't be too hypocritical as I use them too.

My wifes company use them for some does and it does reduce their bottom line significantly.
 
We all know the negatives, but we all use them, hence the downfall of bricks and mortar shops.
 
Most of Amazon's profits (well, just over half) comes from its cloud computing arm nowadays, not flogging you cheap books.
 
It’s not just Amazon that’s crippled some high street shops, with a lot being under one roof and inexpensive the supermarkets have assisted in the decline imo.
 
Sainsbury, Tesco and Netflix were so dumb they hosted their applications on AWS, not stopping to think how they were funding a major competitor.
