Maytag dishwasher problems

We own a 10 year old Maytag dishwasher. Last load when it went to drain, water came out of the air vent that is on top of our countertop. Why is it doing this? Also the soap tray is sticking and does not open-can I just put the soap in and not close it?

I suggest you try a US forum, Maytag isn't used in Europe.

Maytag is un-common this side of the pond so you may not get much help.

The dishwasher tablets should be okay to drop in the bottom of the machine as they will not dissolve much on the cold rinse part of the cycle. The flap on the tablet dispenser can get stuck when the spring that flicks it open breaks.
