I've got some plinth, pelmet and cornice to cut for my kitchen, all need 45degree angles cut in them. I tried a mitre saw for one of the pelmets but no matter how well I clamped the piece (using the build in mitre clamp) it would always slip slightly or slight sideways movements of the saw occurred and resulted in edges which would not meet correctly. What's the best way of cutting such angles? I looked at the pieces as installed in a display at B&Q and they have perfect angles/edges. Do I just need a new mitre? I bought some fine blades for my jigsaw but don't have anything to present the pieces as the appropriate angle to it.

Are you using a jig saw?
If you have lots of cuts, you would be beter hiring a good saw & table for a few days

I haven't tried using the jigsaw yet as nothing to hold at the correct angle,

I've used a mitre so far but with poor results. The mitre was ok for similar cuts in skirting I put down previously but because the stuff in the kitchen is more noticible and can't be filled/painted like skirting it needs to be a better job. Probably not enough cuts to justify hiring a saw.
