Hi,

I am about to purchase some new PVC windows.
One of the existing windows is a metal window screwed to a wooden frame.
Under the sill is a thick mortar bed of 15 to 20mm thick.
Should i add this onto the window measurements and then knock off the 10mm or should I ignore the mortar bed in the measurements.?

Thanks in advance

Oh dear, not another plastic window. Why don't you replace your metal windows in timber frames with something similar. Yous grandchildren will be able to appreciate your investment. You can get double glazed ones now. There are a number of companies that make excellent steel windows but The Cotswold Casement Company has a reputation for being amongst the best.

But to answer your question, if it looks as though the mortar bed can be removed I would do so and then you can measure the distance across the opening in the wall.
