Microbore 8mm : internal or external diameter

OK its abit of numptie question - but here goes....

I have a microbore system - which I'm presuming is 8mm -altho I understand you can get 10mm. Is this internal or external diameter ?

How can I tell if its 8mm or 10mm ?
