we have put a wash on as normal and the programme has stopped and the rinses light is flashing.
have turned off the warning light and tried the programme again but the same has happened again.
tried to drain but it only drained enough to let me open the door to remove the very wet washing!
do I need to get a grown up??

You are probably better off speaking to Miele customer services on this one.

Do the instructions give you a clue, like checking filters, drain hoses etc?

Every now and then we have to clear a build up of fluff and detergent residues from where the drain hose joins the kitchen waste pipe 1-2m away, so even if the machine seems OK don't take it as read that there's no blockage somewhere else.

Rinse light flashing on a Miele washer signals a motor fault. If the machine is an older type (or heavily used) then the chances are that the motor needs new brushes (which would cost around £20, a couple of hours of your time, and some bruised knuckles). If you need further information please state the full nameplate details on the door sticker.

How old is it?

Miele pride themselves on building products with a very long life - that reputation is why they can charge the prices they do. Even if it's officially "out of warranty" a complaint might get you somewhere.
