My miele dryer had a similar problem. I removed the thermostat, banged it hard on a wooden surface and it worked fine.

Thanks for the replies.
It's now working fine, one of the relays in the small board, under the lid, at the back right hand side was not working, so I used the tried and tested method of hitting it to shock it into action. Great no cost solution!
