Hi All,

I had an LED Bathroom Cabinet installed back in April. Been fairly happy with it as I got it at a reasonable price from ebay but recently, I've noticed two small rust spots appearing at the lower middle of the mirrored door. They are about 2mm in diameter. I want to stop these from getting larger and further rust appearing and was wondering what my best options are? I cant get to the back of the mirror as it's fixed to a metal door but it looks like the water has gone in from the sides where there is a tiny gap between the door and the mirror.

If I apply some silicone here, will that stop the rust that's already there from spreading? I'm thinking of taking off the door and leaving it somewhere warm and ventilated to dry out any moisture in between door and mirror prior to doing this.

(Attached pictures are front on of rust spots and side view of paper-thin gap between mirror and door. Ignore the optical illusion in the second pic, you are seeing the mirror edge and not the reflective surface).

Unfortunately just adding silicone will not alleviate the rust, it will carry on, once it starts you can't stop it.

You would need to remove the steel and sand it back to metal and then repaint it with something more suitable
