Hello,

I plan on framing my hardwood deck with a picture frame mitre and wanted to know if i should leave a gap in the mitre joints the same as i will have between the boards?

Whilst Im at it I also wanted to confirm Im correct to lay the boards from the front of the deck moving towards the house so any ripped boards will be nearest to the house rather than at the "end" which is most visible.?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Leave a gap between all deck boards. Size your deck or space your boards so as to avoid any ripped boards.
thats great. thanks, so a gap between the mitre too...5mm?. im afraid a rip is going to be inevitable as it is L-shaped so there will be a rip at one or the other ledger walls.
