I'm laying kerb stones for a step and also where my patio meets my grass. The installation instructions say to bed them on 150mm of concrete but everything I see appears to use sharp sand and cement, and a lot less of it. What mix should I use, ballast or sharp sand? Is 150mm a good depth for the concrete? These are Tobermore KL Kerb stones.

4 to 1. Sharp sand and cement with a splash of add mix..
That's what I'm mixing for patio and edging with a paddle mixer and tub. Half bucket of cement to two buckets of sand.
You can use concrete for a stiffer mix which will build up a bit if required. Sand and cement is very soft when wet. For concrete you will need concrete sand which has stones..

150mm sounds more for those massive road kerb stones Vs garden edging?

150 bed and haunched behind in a single operation is the old school way of kerb and edging laying. DIY you're probably better off laying a 150 strip allowing yourself 10mm for mortar then bed the kerbs like bricks
