We lost some of our fencing last week. Rather than keep up the endless battle against increasing weed strengths we are going to replace it with a mixed hedge. We searches come up with a lot of hedging suppliers, but also that its best to get local stock. But I have failed to find any one in our area and wonder if any one knows of a web site to try or of an actual grower in our area Oswestry, Shropshire. Thanks in advance.

Best bet is to use a foprest nurseries, they can normally provide hedge trees as bare root stock, which works out about £1 a tree. Try Maelor Forest Nuseries, or Prees Heath Forest Nurseries, just outside Whitchurch. Find them on the internet or yellow pages.

careless to 'lose' fencing like that

seriously though if you need wind breakage i would go for thuja plicata (bought in pots) and swedish whitebeam (Sorbus intermedia) (bought bare-rooted) and plant em in staggered rows
