Only 20 dB(A) on tickle setting!

Anyway, they are basically a heat exchanger and two fans. The outgoing air is warm and warms the incoming air. The result is air at a similar temperature biut much lower humidity. It doesn't dry the same air that left the bathroom, so it can be used to remove stale air.
I'd recommend having that kind of unit similar to a normal extractor, either on timer run-on, humidity controlled, or constant with a boost on the bathroom light. You would only need to have it on constant trickle if there is no trickle vent on the window, but if you're having trouble with condensation and don't want to make the place cold, that might be a nice solution.

We have a similar solution for ventilation, but that's partly because we live on an A road so we want to a) get the fresher air from the back of the house and b) not have a lot of noise from the cars driving past at the front.

In a normal installation, the fresh air inlet is from the outside. I wonder if it would make any practical difference if I used loft space air as the 'fresh air' intake?

In the bathroom at the moment, the extract grille is right above the shower area. I was thinking to push the exhaust out the soffit (as it is at the mo) push the warmed fresh air through a grille at the other end of the bathroom.

Loft air is pretty much outside anyway. Those piv units use that method so it will be fine.

Sounds good. Technically bringing it in at floor level would be optimal but it's unlikely to be practical.
Just make sure you have a 10mm gap under the bathroom door.
Are you sure? I don't think that would be necessary for a balanced ventilation system, that only applies to extract only systems or multi room mvhr systems.
