Hi, any advice on getting rid of black mold developing in the bathroom. It started above the shower and has slowly grown to spots on the walls and ceiling. Also I am thinking about replacing the extracter fan but not sure what would be the best. Any help welcome, cheers

Bleach will kill the mould but ventilation is the key, either a fan with a humidistat, so it sorts itself out based on the moisture content in the air, or a timer fan that over runs when you have left the bathroom. Also extractor fans only work properly when they have air to move, if you close the bathroom door and you have no decent gap underneath the fan will struggle to move anything.

Bleach will of course kill off mould spores, yet you would be far better off to use an anti fungicidal wash. It will offer you far more protection regarding longevity.

Also when you come to paint use a paint with a mould inhibitor. Make sure you have rectified the problem before hand though! ;)

Certain manufactures such as Johnstones\Leyland do offer anti mould paint systems, whilst these in themselves are not a complete cure, they can both ****** and prolong the appearance of mould formation.

One of the best being the Dulux Trade Mouldshield range, this system is available in both Matt and Eggshell.
