Mondeo Ghia

I have a friend who has a N plate Mondeo Ghia 'Scorpio'
He cannot get the service light off, neither could the garage after he'd had it serviced!!

Any pointers peeps?

IT MIGHT BE?insert key into ignition and turn it on (so the dash lights up)do not start the car and press the trip button at the same time.

could also be: foot flat out on accelerator and brake pedal, turn on ignition and hold til light goes out
