Thousands of staff who work for the car maker are at risk of redundancy while the famous ‘Mondeo Man’ which embodied an aspiring political class of voters under former Labour leader Tony Blair could be on his way out.

The Detroit car maker could slash up to 12pc of its global workforce in “deep and fundamental” plans being formulated in its headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. Many of the cuts are feared to come from the company’s European operations, particularly in Germany and Spain.

I wonder what they think will be a viable replacement? I've had a few Mondeo's and they've always been a spacious reliable car, the focus is just too small in my opinion and many of their SUV type cars are a fortune when you could look at more established alternatives.

They are stopping importing the Focus into America due to Trump genius tariffs.

Ford is facing changing consumer demand like all other manufacturers.

Had to drive 2 fords, a car I owned just for a year, the second a company van. Would never buy a run of the mill ford ever again, awful make. I would hope their higher end models are better?

if Ford stop making one car in one factory, they will probably start making more somewhere else. Trumpland has just/almost signed a new trade deal with Mexico.

"The president’s apparent willingness to move on without Canada prompted confusion and concern among lawmakers — who said it may not be legally permissible, let alone smart — and businesses whose supply chains depend on a deal encompassing all three countries."

Perhaps his sudden co-operation has nothing to do with Mexico's carefully-targeted trade sanctions on Trump's heartland, in retaliation for his earlier attacks on Mexico's trade. Perhaps.

Funnily enough, just about a year ago, Ford cancelled plans to build Focus in Mexico due to another Trumptrum.

IMO there is a place for sensible, grown-up political leaders in this world. Maybe even the US will get one next time.

He's trying to do what he said he was going to try to do.

I've yet to hear of one...

Probably because they are always in someone's pocket!

Ford have never sold the Mondeo in North America, won't affect Britain as the last British built Ford car (fiesta) rolled off the dagenham production line in 2005.

Not by name but the Mondeo has been in the US as the Contour.
