I have bought a mortice lock. I opened it up and a spring popped out. I can't for the life of me figure out where it goes. Can anyone tell me where it goes please? Thank you

I never quite understand these kind of replies to forum threads? I mean do you honestly think that I havent spent all morning looking, so I would just ask here? Forgive my curtness but if you know where it goes, why don't you just say to help me?

Yes I know where it goes , but I’m don’t have one to show you and I doubt you would understand directions, hence the video search which produces exactly what you need .Did it not occur to you to mention the brand? As they all vary in design .

Have you searched "anatomy of a mortise lock" using images? I've just looked but several come up, but none similar to yours, as above, the make would be handy

To be fair I didn't think they were all different apologies. It's a set from Amazon called XFORT.

I think if you tell me where it goes I will know, as I have been working on this all day, I know this lock intimately.

Can you tell me if the wire in the image is correct?

I think spring goes below the brass thumb turn pin to lock it in open or closed position , it only works one way round so you may have to turn it over .
