Having done a search on "saniflow" in this forum it seems that most people have little regard for them. Is there a better make?

I'm going to be putting in an en-suite at the front of the house on the 1st floor. All plumbing is at the back, about 7 metres away. The pipes are going to have to run in the floor void and so there's no chance of much of a drop.

Also, I want to have a shower. However, I have long hair and some of it is going to go down the plug hole. Is this a recipe for disaster?

Lets just say I would prefer to dig the lounge up and extend the drain.

Why :?: I don't like sticking my arm in a bucket of 4x

If you've ever had a waste disposal unit in the kitchen sink, these thing work the same only a tad stronger.

Saniflo's a good make, but nature of the beast - these contraptions are noisy and if they go wrong...not pleasant and can be expensive to fix, unless you don't mind dealing with macerated Mr Hankey :P

Still having the nightmares about them  , but they do work for some people...absolute last resort though!

It'd cost a fair bit to run 6" soil pipe, but depends on the job...hence mods intervention :!: Call someone in to give a quote.

Thanks for your replies.

If it turns out I have to resort to a Saniflow anyway, maybe it's worth me considering just using one for the loo and having the washbasin and shower on a seperate pipe, not going via the Saniflow. At least that reduces the risk of hair getting in and clogging up the macerator. Also, it will solve the problem of getting a drop from the shower tray into the Saniflow - something I was not clear about anyway.

Because of the room layout, the shower drain will be shorter - say 4.5 metres. If I fit a slightly wider pipe (eg 2 inches), would this be sufficient on its own with a very shallow drop? Basically, the max drop will only be about 5 inches over that length because that'll be the amount of free vertical movement a 2 inch pipe can have in a 7 inch floor void.

It's going to be a pumped shower so there will be a reasonable flow.

I'll do my best 8)

Putting a 50mm waste on a short-ish run from a shower will not make much difference to the actual flow - especially given you'll get a slightly better fall from a 40mm waste. But the advantage of a 50mm is that there's much less chance of a blockage under the floor. If it's a straight run AND you can put a rodding access on the end of it, I'd use 40mm. But then again - the rules say 50mm over 4 metres - IIRC.
