Motorway Lights.

The story implied that lighting had been switched off on 3,080 miles of motorway. In fact this is the length of motorways and major ‘A’ roads on which lighting is not provided. The number of miles of motorway that are currently unlit as a result of our programme to reduce carbon emissions is under 100 miles (98.4 miles).

Seems to me they've identified a small stretch of m-way that isn't being used so often and doesn't require lighting. Makes sense to me. Or do y'all leave all the lights on in your homes?

Less light pollution too.

Better for the fauna, better for us.

When the clouds clear, look up at the sky and marvel at the stars.

It is a tragedy that so many people nowadays have such a hampered view of the night sky.

Driving on dark roads is a lot more tiring. Lit roads will be safer because you can see a lot more detail and see much further ahead. For anyone, eg. lorry drivers, doing big miles mainly on motorways/A roads I would guess that there is a lot less fatigue for them where lighting is present.

Also guessing that any stats for lit or unlit roads/motorways will show that the lit ones have lower deaths and injuries. So not buying into it being better for us. The lights aren't there for fun.

I always prefer night driving, an unlit always suits me just fine. I always found night driving best, simply for the facts that the roads tend to be quieter, which itself makes them less dangerous, and no hold-ups. Unlit, means you can see the approach of other vehicles, from much further away, from their headlights.

I'm the opposite. I prefer day driving - lot less tiring even if a bit more traffic.Driving at night, especially in the rain when the water distorts the oncoming lights, needs a lot more concentration from me. Maybe my eyes just aren't suited to the dark.

Yes, our treacherous politicians again. Force us to use less and less resources but admit millions more who will undo all of that. And the sheeple buy into all of it and ask how high they should jump.

Anyway, I digress. Back on topic. (y)
It would be even worse if they were doing all this with money taken from us. Thankfully that's not the case.

Oh wait ...
