Our Boilermate is in an airing cupboard which takes up a third of our tiny bathroom.. I am toying with the idea of moving it directly above into the loft and hiding the pipework/cables etc in a new smaller airing cupboard with a rad on the primary flow from the boiler to keep her towels nice and dry.

Is it just a case of extending/insulating the pipework/cables and making sure the joists in the loft can take the strain? I understand these mothers can weigh in at a few kilos when full..

I'd also need to cut one or two joists to get it up there. Is this a BAD thing to do temporarily?

Quite apart from the dubious wisdom of moving one of these and the effect of the roof loading, if you live in a typical 'new build' house you will have prestressed roof timbers.

These should never be cut. Hopefully this helps you in your decision. It would make a survey when you were selling the place interesting reading.
