We are about to embark on our first self-build extension. Our first concern is how to maintain a working soil pipe. The foundations for the extension pass through the existing manhole. The new manhole will be further down the drain run. Should I install the new man hole and connect up to W.c and waste pipes before excavating for foundations :?: Thankyiu

We have in the past, solved the problem by running temporary 110mm waste pipes above ground into temporary chambers or drains away from the extension.

The existing stack would be cut off above ground and a 90 degree bend fitted to it.

The advantage of this method is the pipe can be removed and reinstated whilst the house is unoccupied throughout the day, i.e. the pipe is accessible and portable. This allows us to use the digger without fear of damaging pipes.

We do a similar thing with sink and basin wastes.
