We are just in the first throws of an extension which will include an en-suite. One concern is that with a new shower going in we will run out of hot water. The present power shower copes with 2-3 showers at most and whilst not really wanting an electric shower in the new bathroom, thought it may be the only option to be certain of hot water.

A plumber has told us of a system that will allow us to have unlimited hot water to power showers which apparently means changing your emmersion tank and dispensing with the water tanks in the loft. Can someone tell me what this system is and how it works - also any potential problems with it?

Sounds like he is describing a mains unvented cylinder. These are very expensive for a good one and need to be fitted by an installer with an 'unvented ticket' and notified. You cannot run a 'power shower' off it.

You need to have a good mains pressure coming into the property and ideally a 22mm cold mains supply to the cylinder. It will also need an safety discharge pipe to outside.

It can only be installed on a fully pumped system.

If all above are ok then you will not get a better system. You could still run out of hot water though if you put a very heavy draw on it. Average re-heat times are around 16-22mins depending on what capacity it is ;)

well thanks for the quick reply, but now I am confused , since this was the recommendation for multiple showers.
Is there a system to use that will allow me to run showers off of them with some sort of pressure - as the standard pressure is not that great?

What would you recommend as the best option? Any idea of the costs?

thanks

puts unvented out of it then

whacking great high recovery cylinder or 2 smaller h/r cyl fully pumped if h/w is a priority "w" plan

powerfull showers pump them ;)

T'way we speak up't'north.tha knows. Unvented system 250ltr if you've got 't' room and ££££££££'s. Supply pressure and 22mm feed as gas4you pointed out.
 ;)
