my boiler (potterton 80e) stays on constantly

i have a potterton 80e boiler.

when i put the heating on, the boiler stays on constantly.

it used to flick on and off.

i don't have a central thermostat.i have them on the rads (there not on maximum)

??

nobody should rely on trv's to control heating, it is very uneconomical, plumbers used to avoid stats because of the messing about with wiring, but now a wireless room stat can be fitted with very little problem and will save you a lot in heating bill. You almost certainly have a motorised valve somewhere, maybe airing cupboard, it may be faulty, does it have 2 or three pipes going into it?
 
i'm pretty sure its nothing to do with the motorised valve as i haven't touched or used it for years (10+).

i switch the heating on at the boiler.

i wondered if it was maybe the C.H temperature sensor
 
He does not have any motor valves!

It may just be that the colder weather enables the boiler to stay on at the minimum power all then time!
