He told me when i dropped it off last wednesday he said oh it needs quite a bit of work this dont it and leave it with us for a few days cos were really busy

I was thinking how does it need quite a bit of work i fixed everything else its literally just the seat needs looking at and the headlight leveliong device.

Ive been using tbis garage for around 5 years and theyve always been good so i hope they arent starting to take the **** now because the way he spoke last week he was talking a bit like a scammer

Did they tell you they will charge for a fresh MOT?
Surely you can negotiate the £45 fee with them.
BTW, before next MOT, do all the checks you can yourself so you don't end up with a massive list of faults.

You are asking for help, but not sure what anybody can help with.

The car will need a new mot, who pays for it is the question.

The only people that can tell you the garage side of the story is the garage. Talk to them, discuss the issue, and then come back with their comments if you are not happy.

MOT experts, is the 10 day retest a statutory one or a garage can extend that?

But specifically this......

Taking it back for a retest within 10 working days

You’ll only need a partial retest if you take the vehicle from the test centre for repairs and take it back within 10 working days. You can be charged a partial retest fee for this.

In all other cases, you’ll need to get a full retest and pay the full MOT test fee again.

To also clarify, that means returned in a repaired state ready for retest. If further repairs are needed then a conversation needs to be had with the testers.

I'm not sure, but the way I read it, had you left it there for all the faults to be dealt with, the 10 day limit would not apply. As you took it away to fix some of the issues, then the 10 day limit applies.

MOT stations can charge what they like, within the maximum, so worth trying to negotiate a lower fee, but always best to do a pre-MOT, to pick up obvious, easily fixed issues before presenting it for an MOT.

From memory, left the station and returned it with items that are not included in the free retest within 24 hours. They are within their rights to charge you again.
