Hi

My window sills are dark varnished wood but I wanna paint em with white gloss.
Whats the best way of going about this?
Do I need to sand them first or can I just paint straight onto them etc etc?

Many thanx in advance :)

yes you can paint strait onto the varnish, it will look fine.....until the varnish starts to deteriorate, then the paint will come off too.

As with all jobs the best time is spent in preperation, either use paint stripper or a sanding m/c to get to the bare wood then start with a wood primer, under coat, then top coat, if you follow this it should last for years and need only the ocasional wipe to keep it looking good.

You could say it would be like trying to build a house on a sandy beach, looks good for a while until the foundations collapse. Better to have solid foundations.
