I'm about to varnish my new pine door, my new skirting and my existing rubbed down door frame.

Not sure what varnish yet, but it'll be matt finish.

I'm going to do 1 coat of 50% white spirits, 50% varnish, then a second coat of 20% spirts, 80% varnish then a third coat of just varnish.

I'll do it all with a brush, or should the 6 panel door be done with a mini roller ?

Also i'll lightly rub down between coats.

I've got most of the ideas from on here, but times change....anyone see anything i should do extra ?

thanks

If u use Oil Based Varnish then expect your lovely pine wood go from clear to yellow clear in one years time. I would personally use Leylands Water Based Varnish in Matt as it will not yellow & i find there Water Based Varnish to be the best for wood.
