thanks for looking its what i ve been doing...anyway boiler has been struggling to ignite taking a few times to get going ,last night noticed that it was nt on at all turned every thing off powered up..nothing apart from one small click and then nothing ..no fan..no spark.......i have taken cover off and noticed aps hanging in mid air which has caused it to lay against hot pipe so part of aps is in a sorry state but would this cause me to have no spark and no igintion..many thanks for replys

Yes but only if the fan was spinning. You need to test for 230V at the fan terminals whilst it is trying to come on, assuming you are comfortable working with live electrics

thank you for replying.....boiler off ..disconneted fan wires attatched probes turned boiler on 240 at wires......tested across terminals no continuity....i did test with gas off but i guess this makes no difference....so does this mean fan windings gone and does this add up to no ignition no spark thanks

If the air pressure switch is that bad and has melted in layman terms in the position it goes too when from rest the fan starts and switch is then made allowing boiler to fire,,this will stop fan starting and boiler firing it is part of a safety circuit on the board''

But if your getting 240v at fan and its not running it would suggest fan kaput and they are about 300 quid reconditioned a lot cheaper

Agree with namsag, fan sounds as though it has had it.

Sequence is fan spins, aps proves fan, ignition cycle starts.

Only you can decide if it is worth spending a lot of money on a boiler of this age, or what your budget is etc.

thank you for your relpy s ...never had a problem with boiler before so thinks its worth a few hundred pounds thanks for your time on boiler much appreciated

finally got the money for my fan its been dam cold...any way just fitted it,great fan spins up a treat but nothing else it does nt do any thing else no ingition does nt even try ....what can i now test please

APS in "sorry state" sounds like it could be relevant.
Hesitate to advise on flue matters, especially on this old boiler though which is one of the dangerous ones. The case seals are REALLY important.

Test resistance across common and n/c and common and n/o
Then blow or suck on pipes to see if readings reverse !!

definatly got some resistance on both and they both move when sucking or blowing gently also i can here a click inside the unit

ok ...without the cover on it now sparks ignites lights but goes out...with cover on fan starts but no spark etc are we looking at aps still..thanks for your help

new aps today and tubing i have heat at last ,thanks every one for your help to get my boiler working
