Neatest acceptable way to cover insulation?

Hi. I have a smallish attic in which I've just installed power and some light-duty flooring in about the central 1/3 of it. There are some loose, unsecured boards in other parts but this central section is all I want to use at the moment for light storage. About half of the total attic floor space, towards the edges, is bare insulation and I want to cover this somehow to keep things cleaner. Is it acceptable to simply staple some plastic sheeting across these areas? They wouldn't be air-tight by any means - and around the very edges of the floor I'd just tuck the plastic in rather than try to seal it.

I might end up boarding more of it but there will always be some patches I have to leave due to the arrangement of cables for the upstairs lighting.

Thanks,

Why would you want to bother with trying to keep the insulation clean? Does the attic have any sarking or lining material to prevent rain and dirt ingress through the tiles? If you are boarding, don't compress the insulation otherwise you will reduce its effectiveness.
