My washing machine broke down a cuple of days ago and I'm trying to buy a washing machine or washer dryer but as I read reviews about washing machines I'm confused as which one to buy? Shall I buy a washer dryer or a washing machine? And also which make is better? AEG, ZANUSSI or HOOVER Which make is more reliable?

PS: It seems that my appliances are dropping out on me like flies, first the big TV, than the washing machine, another smaller TV, coffee machine - all in the space of one month!

I was told years ago to buy a washer/dryer, you don't have to use the dryer but it is an option. how sound this advice is I will not vouch but he was a washing machine engineer.

i used to work for hp, NEVER buy a w/d ( i am not saying just hp, but any w/d) reasons are as follows

if washer goes down you loose wd
more parts to go wrong
costs more to buy
dryer side can only dry 1/2 load of that you just washed
they never dry "properly" anyway becasue of the way they work
also with separate w/m a t/d you can use td while w/m is doing another load

steer clear of own brands, also "american brands" (maytag) i am still biased so i must say get a hp

don't be, its only my opinion, but no one can deny (not saying you said otherwiswe) that with separates you can wash and dry at the same time

I'd have to agree with all those points - except get a HP! - They've been taken over by Indes*it so quality would be even worse than it used to be!
Steer clear of Washer Dryers - they are the most unreliable appliance you can get and they don't work properly - they also increase your water useage considerably - over 100 litres is used by some on a drying cycle.

Go for good mid price machines - I tend to recommend Bosch - but make sure it's the German made stuff and not the cr*p they're making in Slovenia !

Thanks guys, I Have bought a AEG the german made. the only problem is I have to go and collect it from Birmingham and I'm in london!

Even tough I fixed my washer dryer!

AEG, are very reliable, our AEG has been used at least once a day for 5 years, and has been superb. An interesting but totally pointless fact, AEG manufactured the gas chambers for the Nazi's in WWII.
