Hi all,
The other night, I looked out onto my flat roof from my 1st floor bedroom window and saw a heavy bird bath knocked over and leaning against my window sill. I knew that it was too heavy for a cat or bird to have moved it, so I phoned my neighbour who also has a flat roof which adjoins mine. (we have a semi detached house) to cut a long story short, I now know that he had been up onto my flat roof and was doing something with the electricity cables. We have a shared electricity supply by way of a shared electricity cable. (looped supply) He denied it was him on my roof. He is and always has been an absolute menace. I caught him taking the tiles off my roof once when his own had come off and broken.
I need to place a camera on my windowsill to face out into the flat roof, but I'm not sure if I need one in my bedroom facing out onto the flat roof or one placed outside. Does anyone have any recommendations?

If the roof can be looked out onto, via a window, just buy a cheap USB powered camera, and install it indoors. One with a built-in SD card, to record, triggered by movement, plus wifi. If you don't want your neighbour to know the cam is there, just disguise it buy placing an innocent looking box over it.

I have one similar to the above, which includes being able to remotely move it. Any motion it sees, it records, and records a few seconds of video prior to the trigger, and a minute following the trigger. It cost around £20. Lots of similar ones, on Aliexpress.

Inform the police he is a peeping Tom and is harassing you by peeping through your bedroom window. He’ll be arrested and in 18 months time will appear in court and be bound over to keep the peace.

Alternatively get someone to show him the error of his ways.

Shared electricity???
On a flat roof???
Flying cables???
WTF is going on???

Anyhow, I have a Cococam on my windowsill and disabled the night vision feature.
Images are good enough in the dark to identify neighbours.

It wouldn't be the first time, he was a bit of a Jimmy Saville in his time. I keep well away from him.

we receive an electricity supply by way of a shared single cable. The cable comes in to my neighbours house from the street and is then looped to my property. I've once suspected him of stealing my electricity as we had eye watering bills for the last 10 years, but apparently in order to steal my electricity he would have had to have access to my meter, he doesn't have access to my meter, so my suspicions were unfounded.

Sounds as though you're as bad as one-another, making accusations with no evidence. Are you sure this isn't the case here with the flat-roof issue?

The camera will confirm or otherwise.

We had a spate of someone coming into our garden just before COVID - the garden is surrounded by 6ft fences and a gate. I knew someone had been in as the gate bolt was left in a position that I do not use. First thought was me after walking the dog but I made sure I left it in a particular position after a few "intrusions". I was going to install a camera to find out but COVID came along and there appears to have been no problem since. It was more to kill my curiosity as nothing appeared to have been tampered with.

My thinking was that the neighbours were getting quotes for fascia replacement and that involved the garage that forms part of the boundary. I assume the guys doing the quotes needed to look at my side.
