I am a first time buyer and last week I moved into the house which uses Potterton Suprima 30. Only two of the radiators were working when I moved in and called the engineer who took the TRVs from other radiators and made it work. But it goes off once you fix the TRV back.

Yesterday I also pointed out that the room thermostat stoped working. Also the mechnanical timer switch doesn't work anymore as I can see the radiators are on always.

Any help on how to fix the thermostat or how to make the timer work again.

Regards
Syed

seems to me u will need a heating egineer to come round and sort ur various problems out, service the boiler etc

If you don't have latest pcb then you will soon as they are a constant problem so get it on a contract

Hi Syed, how do you know the thermostat or timer is not working? It could be the famous suprima fault causing it to misbehave. Did the previous houseowner run off down the road shouting `YYYEEESSS'. Few more details might let us know if you're a lucky person or not.

Many thanks for your reply.

The boiler has started behaving strangely and yesterday hot water stopped working. The potterton specialist tried to fix it but the BoilerMate III motor always runs regardless of thermostat control even if i turn it to 5 degree I can see the radiators are hotted up.

The hot water also not running and we tried many ways by filling up the tank which is on the top of Boiler Mate. No luck so far.

Now I have central heating which runs non-stop and no hot water.

Any suggestions/opinions on this?. Is suprima 30 a good boiler?.

You should have mentioned the Boilermate to start with!!! It's a heatstore. Boler heats up store. Water from store gets pumped rounds rads and back to store (NOT to the boiler). Hot water flows in a coil inside the store and gets heated up as it goes through.

The whole thing depends on the water in the heatstore being HOT (ISTR 80 degrees). So don't even THINK of putting a condensing boiler on one of these - it will hardly ever condense!

A common fault on the Boilermate is that the thermostat fails ON (so the boiler runs all the time). But if your central heating is working it's hard to see how you could fail to get hot water..... The tank on top of the cylinder is only a Feed & Expansion tank for the Boilermate and rads, NOT to provide hot water.

When you say 'No hot water', do you mean it runs cold or doesn't run at all?

My apologies if I haven't mentioned BoilerMate and I am a novice in this field.

Yes, until yesterday cold water is coming through the hot water tap and central heating was working non-stop. Today morning, I found that central heating also stopped working. The red light was flashing on the Suprima 30 and I reset it which made the green light coming through. After a while I saw a screetching noice from BoilerMate and I was forced to switch off. At that time the suprima boiler has shown a sparking red light along with usual blue flames.

I think central heating also gone this time which is a worst nightmare. I am waiting for the engineer to fix this issue.

Any ideas why it failed and what has possibly gone wrong. Many thanks.

Hi Syed

Did you get this problem fixed? I've got exactly the same problem - suprima 30, heating staying on sometimes even with thermostat on 5 degrees and hot water which runs cold after a few minutes.

alessandro, you would do better starting a new thread instead of resurrecting a 2 year old jobby.
and tell us your problems and system layout, controls etc.

if you also have a boilermate the hot water fault will most likely be the mixing valve.
