Hello, I have recently fitted wodden cladding to a fireplace surround for a friend (covered the old stone work), looks really nice. Cladding is about 100mm away from wall. (Gas fire)

But my friend has just advised me to take it down, because she was informed by the gasman that it is was un-safe and needed to be removed.

I just read the regulations: Combustibles must be at least 200mm away from the inside face of the flue liner or have a 40mm air gap from the outside face of the chimney.

I have not measured it yet, going down there later to do it myself. But I am un-sure about where to take the measurements. Where is the inside face of the flue liner? The opposite wall? Or where the vent is?[/b]
