Hi, I have a Salamander ESP80CPV pump which worked fine for a long time but recently it has start activating when no taps or showers are running. I have checked for leaks on the system and none were found. It has got to the stage now that I turn it off at night because it keeps waking me up! Can anyone suggest what the problem is and how to cure it?

I'm afraid not yet, I have now set it to only operate on positive head and it no longer hunts but you have to hang the shower head in the tray to get it to operate which does not always work. One suggestion was that our water may be too hot, it comes from the AGA so is not easy to control. When I get a chance I'm going to remove it to check the pressure in the expansion vessel.

And this is where i step in......

Good morning, first of all isolate the outlets on the pump where the hose connects onto the outlet pipework. This will tell you if you have a a system or pump issue, if the pump stops hunting (coming on on its own) then you know its a weep or a drip on the system where the pump is sensing a pressure drop. If it continues to hunt we know its the pump, usually the pressure vessel is low. Take the pump out of situ, attach a foot pump with a gauge and check that there is the correct pressure in there, ESP80 would be 14PSI. If you get any water from the valve on the pressure vessel then the diaphragm has split and you would require a new pressure vessel.

hope this helps.

regards
