It is just not economical for me to visit your area due to the travelling time involved. Also its not a difficult repair so anyone who knows how to can deal with it.

Another complication for you is that in the general plumbing field, ( away from this forum ) few "plumbers" even have heard of the F75 fault.

But a "boiler engineer" should be well aware of it. Even though I try not to do too much work, I still seem to go to an F75 at least once a month.

£300 is still a hell of a lot cheaper than having a new boiler installed which will never ever pay for itself, and I think Vaillant will guarantee it for a year after they've done the work. If you're nervous about getting a local engineer, Vaillant is the way to go. If you're really determined to buy a new boiler, get an Intergas ECO RF with a ten year warranty

Intergas support OpenTherm, and also happen to be very good boilers, but even with the most energy-saving control setup in the world you're not going to save anywhere near as much money as you spend changing everything over

Many manufacturers would rather you bought their own controls than use 3rd-party kit that doesn't earn any money. Interestingly, Vaillant support OT in Germany, but don't let us have it here. There is apparently a workaround to make UK-spec Vaillants work with OT, but it's very much unofficial and Vaillant take a dim view of it being done

How on earth have you got a quote within two hours of having Intergas suggested as an alternative?

The Vaillant repair is still some 1500 cheaper than the intergas quote. Make sure you ask for a proper Vaillant/GroupService engineer if you go with Vaillant - because they sometimes send a Homeserve numpty instead and they are generally incompetent. I have seen people have boilers practically rebuilt for 300 quid by Group Service.

Choose the engineer and then choose the boiler. But best advice is get it fixed. Vaillant will do a proper job for 300 and will cover all bases to avoid a callback. Treat the engineer nicely - sort out a parking space, make tea and hint that you would like to have the rubber hoses upgraded to copper and you will get great service. Ideally you want the copper tube upgrade and pressure sensor plus the pcb. Parts alone are north of 300.

Would this work on an eight year old ecotek 824 plus? Where can I find out more about this? Thanks

You'll need to start by importing a VR33 module from Europe, but AFAIK there's no way of knowing whether it'll work on your boiler without trying it, and of course you can't send it back if it doesn't work! As for finding out more info, Google is your friend; as you need to take the front cover off the boiler to fit it and only Gas Safe Registered engineers are allowed to remove and refit the front cover on your boiler, you won't get any help with fitting it here I'm afraid

I'm going to sent the Nest back as it will just be a toy on this boiler but is there anything else I can add to provide some more efficiently such as weather sensor or modular thermostat as my thermostat is an old Honeywell circular analog thermostat!

I think you need to be a bit clearer on exactly what you're looking for in a boiler control system. A DT90E will be more accurate than your present stat, but won't give you WiFi functionality or any programming functions

I work for Intergas and the 30 Eco RF is an amazing boiler!

We also have our own smart control which supports open therm and remote management being launched right now which enables all sorts of functionality.

My advice in this case? Get the Vaillant fixed it's got loads of life left.
