new bath, old tiles

My new bath is higher than the old one. Is it OK to leave the tiles in place and fit the bath against them and then seal the gap?

You may struggle to get a good seal. :(

You could try plastic edging or those quadrant tiles that go around the bath edge.
 
Get a TeleSeal kit. I fitted one three years ago for the first time and can assure readers (including the so called professionals) that nothing else comes near. This is quite simply because it can cope with all but the biggest gaps (which shouldn't be there anyway) and virtually any vertical movement of the bath due to filling/emptying. Beats all that messing around with silicone and vastly superior to that Homelux rubbish.
