Hello there.

I have just finished painting and freshening up my bathroom, and thought I might as well replace the downlights as the previous ones are about 10 years old.
The previous ones were 40w halogen 12v which I’m replacing them with fire rated 5w LED 240v (IP65)
The old downlights are not wired for earth and it looks like the earth has been removed or tied away within the ceiling. I notice the new downlights are wired for earth.

I’m really looking for clarification on the regulations these days as there appears to be conflicting information.
Am I okay to remove the old lights & transformers, and install the new lights, or do I need to get a Sparky in.

Many thanks

How high is your ceiling?

If your downlights instructions require an earth then you need to provide it at every light.

If they are tied back then just connect the earth in. Do check that the earth conductor(cpc) is actually connected to earth!
