Water under 1.7 bar pressure tends to force air out of its way in pipework.
Air " bubbles" in gravity DHW systems , will find their way to high spots and stay there .

I don't quite understand why (cos the 1.7 is static) but I'll accept it. Next time I have to drain down I might try taking the (direct) thermal store out of circuit and pressurising the rads and boiler, see if it makes a difference.
