1/2 inch pipe coming off of the 1 inch pipe up to the rad the 1/2 inch pipe coming off the other end of the rad down to the 1 inch pipe, he put a 1 inch shut off between the 2 1/2 inch pipes to force the water through the rads.

Better chance if the rads are piped TBOE (Top, Bottom, Opposite Ends) but still no guarantee it will work properly with a modern boiler and pump. Is it a system boiler? Or a combi? Not sure what you have over there. Are the pipes steel/iron? With a shut off valve between the rad tails, then shutting off one rad will shut them all off as flow will be required through each rad... Even if only partially closed it is very restrictive.

It is a Navien NHB-055H NG and the pipes are all copper..
Where is the pump? A sketch of the system would be helpful
Can't find that model so can't tell if it's heat-only, system or combi. Is it 55000 BTU/h, natural gas?
Yes it's heat only. It has 2 pumps on it one pushing the water and one pulling the water..
If the boiler has pumps "on it" that would suggest a system boiler!
Can you not call their tech dept and ask if it's suitable for a one pipe system and how it should be incorporated?
I assume the original system had no pump. Two is unusual, a sketch would still be useful.
Or some photos.
Circulation is circulation (or not) whatever country it is... Hydronics.
Quite intrigued as to this set up now.
