ive been advised by a corgi plumber to buy a new boiler as mine is getting on a bit and am having all manner of problems with it (it 10 yrs old)

i also want to move my new boiler downstairs

am a trainee plumber on my 2nd year of a nvq course so the corgi plumber says, if i do the plumbing side i.e renew the pipes running from the rads. he would do the rest at a good price.

just wondered if you guys had any good tips to help me renew my 15mm copper pipes (like to change them to plastic) and how do i go about linking in the pipes where my old boiler used to be ?

and how is the best way to find out which pipies are the flow and which a the return ?

cheers

not being funny, but what do they teach you in the first two years? I would turn on the boiler and feel which pipes get warm first, but then what do I know!

What is the boiler and what is the problem?

Why are you changing copper pipes to plastic?
Do not forget to ensure a power flush is carried out if you get a new boiler.

the problem with my boiler is that the pressure is always high. the is a wooshing noise coming from the pipe work when the C.H is on

am moving the combi boiler from up to down stairs.

i have had 1 new rad fitted and 1 renewed and moved in the past. the plumber used plastic pipe to do both jobs. is it advisable to renew all the copper pipe work to plastic ?

As the afformentioned post asked what do they teach you these days on your first year NVQ?

Do not tell me the plumber ran the tails in plastic

If you install a new boiler you will have to power flush the system anyway so that should renew their effeciency.
Copper is the choice of most plumbers due to its longevity and adaptability even though prices have been rising recently it is still more cost effecient than plastic.

There seems to be two trains of teaching in the colleges now.

There is the classroom teaching which still just about seems to be based on copper being the best material.

Then there is the canteen teaching where the students swap details of how to do the quickest "fit it and run" using plastic.

The sad thing is that the canteen teaching comes from what they get taught while working for the semi cowboys who can pay them the most to do installation work.

I am going to use plastic when I change my bath but thats a gravity system. I would only use copper for heating.
