New Consumer Unit Installation

Hi,
I'm looking for some help, i wonder if someone can help me.

I have just returned to the the electrical installation game after being out of the game for 12 years. I have recently passed my C & G 2381 (16th) & did the JIB/CITB 4 year apperticeship in the late eighties.

I am getting to grips with part p but am NOT accredited yet but will be when i can afford the testing course & the price of accredition.

I have just been asked to replace an old CU to a new split load C U. I have checked the old & the new units & some of the cables will be too short, whats the best course of action with this, are crimp lugs the answer or is there a better way ? I know that I will have to get a certificate of completion from a electrical installer with the right accreditation, what should this cost just to test the installation of the CU & will the extension of some of the conductors affect the test results for a "pass".

best solution imho..is fit the consumer unit closer to the origin of most of the cables.. crimps for the rest, if enclosed in the cu.. otherwise replace cable or Junction box etc.. not nice.
