Made a thread in the electric section whilst having a few useful replies , sadly it seems the thread has derailed.

Anyway I've just completed my level 3 electrical installing course but i need tools.

So does anyone know any decent drill sets , multi tools that are going at a decent price?

Interested either in a dwault , makita milwaukee or bosch.

Please advice

Note, i'm a DIYer , but have done a lot of work over the last few years

drill bits
i have found the bosch multipurpose drill to cover nearly all my drilling , used in all sorts of brick, block and even into a lintel , which had metal as well (without the need for hammer), hanging loads of curtains rails in various houses for friends and family as well as my own refurb bungalow for the last few years , and also worked on some metal work
used exclusivel now since 2019 and used them lot, and have rarely used the SDS Drill i have, purchased for this sort of thing, as well as chisel

i cant find the set i got - 7 different sizes and lengths , i thought screwfix - but maybe toolstation - purchased a few replacement off amazon recently

found them at tool station
Bosch Expert CYL-9 Multi Construction TCT Drill Bit Set 7 Piece
Product Code: 66729

Multitool
keep an eye open on screwfix toolstation, i susbscribe to emails , get them most days and they often have offers on dewalt tools - and other makes , as well as kits with multiple batteries

do you have any cordless tools at all - once you are in a system, you tend to stay , as having different batteries and charges can be a pain

lots more trades i notice are using Milwaukee , but expensive gear

i have pretty much all dewalt cordless and infact some cabled

what do you have now - may need a SDS Drill ,

when you say multitools , i assume you mean just a multitool

i'm just a DIYer - But have done a lot of electrics training in electronics and electrics and used to fix computers back in the late 70/80's (and rewired a few houses before 2004 when the rules changed

way back i got a deal for my nephew from screwfix for a load of mikita gear - he does a lot of plastering and building work - again from screwfix on a very good mutl deal

often the site does not goto screwfix - £169.99 code (10048)

i find the 2Ah batteries are great and light and use them on impact driver (i would only have the 3 speed one) and the drill is OK - for a diyer doing a utility refit and fitting a lot of ikea stuff - lasted a day

i have used the multitool a lot , but for channelling walls / boxes not so great , depending on the material

i use saxton blades for multitool blades , and other blades circular saw and mitresaw now almost exclusively

i have found the bosch multipurpose drill to cover nearly all my drilling , used in all sorts of brick, block and even into a lintel , which had metal as well (without the need for hammer), hanging loads of curtains rails in various houses for friends and family as well as my own refurb bungalow for the last few years , and also worked on some metal work

I think you had some decent answers on the other thread....

If I was starting from scratch now I would go with milwaukee, but Dewalt are equally as good and a little bit cheaper.

just read your other post, not sure what more you expect here now ????????? - seems like a lot of replies and they often derail - but do come back on track , if you reply with your shortlist and summarise the post and what more you want

i thought you wanted a dril bit set - sorry about that

i know someone recently purchased a load of Bosch Blue pro tools - refurbished - maybe a route to consider , if money an issue - but it was said on last post and mine - make sure you buy into a brand you want to keep , otherwise you will have loads of different charges and batteries , and bet you life the one that runs out - you wont have a charged replacement available

i have loads of the dewalt stuff (and because of bungalow refurb , i knew would get a lot of use , now coming to an end, just the office to do ) - because of price mainly otherwise as i see loads of trades now moving to milwaukee , which i have seen on offer

Hey I do appreciate all the info mate I really do.

I reposted in this section as I was hoping to see if anyone found any decent deals.

But all the extra info you gave has really helped as I've done Limited work but mainly college.

ok, what tools do you have now ???
And you said that you planned to work with some self employed sparkies
which means you would be expected to have all your own tools as they probably wont provide those -
its difficult but , buy good quality and then you only buy once

the kit i was given in 1982 by the computer company i worked with - DEC , then 2nd largest in world , I still have and use to this day - but a few years ago the Fluke meter display failed
A lot of the screwdrivers/spanners etc i'm changing to WERA, quite like thier kit, expensive but so far seems to have the quality - purchased a few kits

I also had a deal on some VDE insulated screwdrivers , pliers , cutters etc KIT - from FFX when it was going and offering lots of deals

How soon are you expecting to start work on site ???

Will this all be domestic work, or will it also be industrial / commercial

if you are just out with a sole trader , then maybe some of the kit you have will be fine, BUT may not last , as i found on my first job in 1974 ..... and ended up buying cheap a few times , cost more in the end

if self employed again as mentioned you could get tax relief on some of the tools and cloths and some prof registrations, not sure what the rules are these day - sure someone will help on current HMRC rules

Thanks for your reply :)

I have all the manual tools like screwdrivers etc
Megger MFT
Got a Black and decker cordless drill. Last year I went to shadow a few guys. Got p1ss taken out of me for that.
So I just need power tools tbh.

Most Sparkies "on-site" well the youngsters atleast, have Milwaukee.

Your are better off sticking to one brand and you don't want anything corded, unless a battery option isn't available.

The main brands for professionals is
Dewalt.
Makita
Milwaukee
Bosch Blue
Festool
Mafell

I wouldn't touch Bosch, they don't honour their warranties, I used to be Bosch.

Festool, Mafell you need deep pockets.

Milwaukee and Makita offer a 1 year warranty as standard. Milwaukee can be extended to 2 years by registering the product within 30 days of purchase whereas Makita extends to 3 years of warranty.

I'm a Makita/Festool Man but then I'm.a Carpenter, I own one Dewalt impact driver with a dodgy trigger "ive hardly used it".

Be careful buying battery tools on line, the deals arent always as good as they look!
Often it's the batteries, you want 5.0 amp hour or move, some deals may be cheaper but they will be offering 3.0amp hour batteries for example.

If you can try and buy local to you.

Good Luck.
