I am hoping someone can give us the information we need to solve what could become a costly problem with our new ensuite!!
When getting an extension with 2 ensuite upstairs and low water pressure - we had contradictory advice. The plumber we eventually trusted did away with a water tank and fitted a "Main" UNVENTED INDIRECT WATER CYLINDER - 210 litres- which has 2 multifunctional tanks above it. This was to feed the system without the need of a tank or pump.
We opted for one shower off the cylinder and one electric - can't exactly remember why this was suggested!!
The first ensuite was fitted with the electric shower before xmas. A MIRA VIE - thermostatically controlled. It is dribbling as opposed to showering and shuts off when the pressure is too low.
The main questions are:
1. Why the unvented cylinder was recommneded above the standard water tank option?
2. Should our plumber have been aware that the ELECTRIC shower would not run efficiently and recommended something else. He knwe the pressure was often low.
He is trying to say its the mains pressure and we should take it up wih the water board - but reading your site this is not an unusual sitaution and he possibly should have not fitted an electric shower that runs off the mains?
shower.(We bought the shower - not him.)
3. We intend to fit a ALTERNO AMALA Thermoststic concentric mixer shower in the main ensuite- to run off the new water tank that heats its own water. Should we trust this as the best option??? It does say it works on low pressure.

 Will welcome any advice before work commneces on the new ensuite in the new year - and we confront him on the elctric shower that does not work.

1. Why the unvented cylinder was recommended above the standard water tank option?
Generally unvented is considered the way forward and state of the art gear. It is great for showers as it provides mains pressre showering.
However the water pressure needs to be adequate and the volume of water should be checked before fitting.
Has the filter been cleaned?
2. Should our plumber have been aware that the ELECTRIC shower would not run efficiently and recommended something else. He knew the pressure was often low.
If the pressure is too low for an electric shower then it would imply that you do have a serious low water pressure problem.

A house I was working in recently had a 25m coil of alkathene shoved under the floorboards and kinked in 8 places. A more likely scenario could be that you have an underground burst. perhaps a valve is not opened fully?

Ask the neighbours what their pressure is like. Better still time how long it takes to fill a bucket of cold water in their bath and compare this with yours.

which has 2 multifunctional tanks above it. This was to feed the system without the need of a tank or pump.
Could you expand on this or perhaps post a picture or two?
