But getting drunk can't be excused as self defence. :rolleyes:

I didn't know that I was being charged with being drunk and dissordely, I was arrested and bailed. I wasn't in a car accident and the desk sergeant knew I wasn't drunk.

Out of interest which came first the D and D charge where you were found guilty, or the fighting in the pub when you weren't found guilty?
Were you charged with the fighting in the pub?

Was this before you got your degree or afterwards?

I guess you were lucky the group on the steps of the memorium moved on peacefully, or you might have been arrested again.

It is the same with possession of alcohol, many Brits arriving in the Middle East destinations have alcohol in their system. It’s as much about respecting their laws as the laws being enforced reasonably.

I was charged with 'being drunk in a public place' when I gave a bit of lip to a copper outside a pub. Got fined £15.
