I have a 1937 bungalow with hipped roof, Latter on i would like a extra room up there. But as i am going to relace the ceilings in both front rooms could i upgrade the new ceiling/loft floor now.The the room is 10 × 12 or 10 × 14 into the bays. The exsistig joists run from back to front and sit on the yop of the bay windows. I was going to put a padstone each side of the window and put a beam across then put in 8 × 2 joists. But is it ok to use a flinch joist 2 × 8 × 2 with metal plate or use a universal joist. Also has the ceilings coming down can i leave out the old 4 × 2s and put in the new 8 × 2s ?
Many thanks in advance
