PLasterboard in Bay Windows - strengthening

Hi all!

We have a 1930's house with a bay window in the front bedrooms. During installation of double glazing the bay ceiling was replaced with plasterboard.. however they have not attached the front of the plasterboard to the front of the bay..

therefore we cannot install curtains/blinds without the potential of pulling down the bay ceiling.

The bay ceiling has recently been plastered! and i want to strengthen the ceiling or attach it more securely to the roof joists and or front of the bay.

if it is only a smallish area then i would be tempted to take it down, fix noggings or battens where necessary and re-fix a new ceiling and skim.

you could fix a timber lining to the ceiling first maybe 4x1 par, hopefully you can catch the joists with some decent screws, mitre it in nicely and paint it the same colour as the ceiling might be an option.

Good News.. Having done some extensive investigation i have managed to rectify the problem with some hard work!

1st I requested the Blind man (ha ha) to advise me where he would be fitting the blinds in relation to the bay ceiling (to cover up any screw heads!)

2nd. I located the ceiling joists and made sure they were sound. I then screwed the celing plasterboard back to the joists.

3rd having noticed there was still some give i cross battened the joists to the roof rafters..
