NEW FLOOR IN OLD LOFT

Hi
My house,which is probably 70/80 years old,ex council,has joists in the loft which are only about 2" deep.
Is it still ok for me to use 18mm chipboard to floor it out?
I am not going to be walking around up there,just using it for extra storage.
ANY advice would be gratefully received
