New gas boiler and new questions

I have just had a new gas boiler installed and it is rather hungry. Greenstar 8000 40kW.

I can control the flow temperature, and according to Worcester technical support, the boiler will attempt to reach that temperature and once reached, it will try to maintain it by modulating down.

But do I have any additional controls? Can I control its power, like "do not exceed 10kW" ?

And most importantly is there any way I can see the instantaneous power and/or gas consumption? (you know like some cars or outboards show you consumption in l/h ?) Currently the only thing it shows me is flow temperature.

If anyone knows any tricks for this boiler please tell me!

Can be range rated on central heating to what the heating requirements of the property have been calculated at.

Your installer should have range rated it as part of the commissioning process. It's a requirement of Building Regulations to carry out a full room by room heat loss survey prior to replacing a boiler, and the result of that survey will determine what the boiler should be set to.

+1 ... get the installer back in and get him to setup and configure the boiler specifically to your property and system, should be part of their commissioning process.

Not all installers seem to buy into the modern way of doing things!. A relative had the regular 8000 installed. I asked whether it would be range rated but told no point as it would modulate. Some tortuous analogy about cars with a big engine on the motorway which I didn't understand.

And most importantly is there any way I can see the instantaneous power and/or gas consumption? (you know like some cars or outboards show you consumption in l/h ?) Currently the only thing it shows me is flow temperature.

You can get a read for the instantaneous power percentage from the main display if you press the right buttons. I can't remember which but they are in the installation manual and it is very simple. You can also reduce the output power to as low as 50% I believe.

I agree, there are quite a few boiler installers that only install boilers and have no idea about setting up the system for efficiency. I wonder how many boilers are installed and left in the default setup.

Worcester technical said they have no way to display fuel (gas) consumption. "Gas consumption display is determined by fan speed and would be an approximation". FFS. An approximation is better than nothing.

I doubt the software does not know what "power" it is running at. So I want to know that as well.

I also would like an interface so I can get it to do what I want, like set flow to 45C, just tick over, or, "we are heating the water cylinder now, go full throttle to 80C". I am sure there is such an interface, since you can do that from the control panel. I have asked the question, waiting to hear back.

Ah yes, it used to display that, but it's gone now. We did have some power cuts as well though.
